Group Projects
for use with Elementary Mathematical Models by Dan Kalman.
Several group projects are listed below. Each one makes some reference to Mathwright modules. For each project there is a brief description. - Arithmetic Growth Model. For this project, students are supposed to bring in some kind of graph from a news publication, and then develop a linear model to fit the graph as closely as possible.
- Quadratic Growth. This project concerns how counter numbers on a reel to reel tape recorder are related to elapsed time as the tape plays. An article published in a journal for physics teachers provides genuine data for this problem, and the data are observed to have nearly constant second differences.
- Geometric Growth. This project is very similar to the first, but the students are supposed to develop a geometric growth model.
- Dummy 1. This is a place holder.
- Dummy2. This is a place holder.
