Text and Webpage Text: Applied Calculus 4th Edition, by Hughes-Hallett et al. (Wiley)
Grades: Final Exam - 20%, 3 in-class exams - 20% each, course portfolio - 20%

Webpage Route: Go to www.dankalman.net and follow the link for applied calc 1.

Class Meets: MTh 4 - 5:15PM + W 4 - 5PM, Ward 301

Homework Each week, most students should spend 8 to 12 hours out of class for a four credit course (based on a 12 to 15 credit load and a
40 to 50 hour full time week). Expect each homework assignment
to take 3 to 4 hours. It may not be wise to plan on doing the entire
assignment at one sitting!
Calculator Every student is required to have a calculator capable of scientific computation. A graphing calculator is highly recommended, preferably a TI 82 or 83 (which will be used in class demonstrations). The TI 81 is less powerful but still acceptable. The Math Department Office (Gray 103) has a limited number of calculators which are available for students to borrow for the semester. A cash deposit is required. Tutoring Lab Students who need help in the course are encouraged to visit the Mathematics and Statistics Tutoring Lab, located in Roper Hall room 122. To get the most out of this resource, plan to work on homework yourself before going to the lab, and take your work with specific questions to the lab. It is recommended you visit the lab early in the semester so you can establish a working relationship with one of the tutors BEFORE exams arrive. Exam Dates
