Instructions for Exam Corrections
- Your exam corrections should
be done
on lined binder paper (or graph paper if you prefer), following the
same format as homework.
- Please do not make any new
marks on the
exam paper after I have graded and
returned it.
- Write up a correction for any exam item for which I
indicated an
error or misunderstanding. For each of these, your correction
should
- Tell what was wrong
- Explain why you made the
error (didn't understand the question, didn't know the material,
didn't remember something, careless error, etc.).
- Give a complete correct solution to the problem.
- When you hand in the corrections, also hand back
in your
exam.
Exam corrections will influence my assessment of your
portfolio at the end of the
course. Errors on exams show some amount of misunderstanding of
the material, and corrections are your chance to learn the ideas you
missed. If your exam corrections do not show that you have
learned this material, for example because you still have incorrect
answers to some of the exam items, that indicates to me that you do not
care very much about whether you understand the missed items. To
make sure you understand your errors and the needed corrections, feel
free to talk with classmates, tutors, other students, or me.
